FAQ

Welcome to the website of the Organic Growers of Fairlie and their Sustainable Community Garden project.

This is an association of village residents in Fairlie (and surrounding towns) , Ayrshire, Scotland, registered as a charity and who are all committed to living healthier, more sustainable lifestyles and improving the environment using techniques. A derelict brownfield site has been turned into a lovely, peaceful grow-your-own mini allotment garden (the Fairlie Organic Garden) using innovative composting and vermi-culture techniques. This web site includes a video of the garden, a large collection of pictures showing the garden throughout its development, several FAQs on vermi-culture/composting, news and events pages.

Visitors are welcome to the garden (see How to Find Us page) however please note that if no gardeners are in the garden then the gate is locked. In the summer in the evenings and at weekends then someone will likely be there. If travelling a distance or you are part of a large group please contact us first (see Contact Us page) and we can usually arrange for someone to show you around (and also have the kettle on!)

A high level view of the garden

At long last we have managed to find a high point (a handy hydraulic platform) to get a picture of (almost!) the whole garden. Our beach and barn are out of the picture to the left.

Our second poly tunnel (84ft long!) was filled with 3 rows of raised-beds  and an overhead  watering system has been installed. Vast amounts of all kinds of vegetables have been grown - tomatoes, squashes, cucumbers.strawberries, beetroot, turnip, basil, runner beans, maize, pumpkins, peppers, courgettes, chillies, garlic and aubergines are just a partial list. You almost needed a guide to find your way through the tunnel!

OGF - "leading the way for sustainable communities" ... but walking in the footsteps of Charles Darwin who concluded in 1866
"It may be doubted whether there are many other animals which have played so important a part as the lowly earthworm, in the history of the world...".
